Orthodontic Treatment (Braces, Invisalign)
Orthodontic treatment is commonly indicated in:
- Correction of malalignment (irregularities in teeth alignment such as crooked, overlapping, or overcrowded teeth). This can usually be treated by fixed appliances (Braces) or removable appliances (e.g. Invisalign).
- Modification of jaw development in young patients to treat malocclusion (discrepancy in the sizes of the upper and lower jaws).
- Treatment of severe jaw discrepancies in conjunction with oral-facial surgery.
Orthodontic treatment can help you when you have problems with “crooked” irregular teeth. Orthodontic treatment can help to improve your self-confidence by improving your smile and appearance.
It will be easier to clean your teeth when they are well-aligned. You will be able to chew your food better, and speech or pronunciation of words may be improved.
A child can begin his or her orthodontic treatment when all the primary or “milk” teeth have been replaced by permanent teeth. Some treatments which involve jaw and facial growth modification can start earlier.
The time taken to complete orthodontic treatment will vary according to the complexity of the condition.
To assess if you are suitable for orthodontic treatment, please consult with your dentist.
